Vehicle (Car) bill of sale rules by state
One key point per state, checked October 16, 2026. Open a state for the full list and sources.
Texas Vehicle Bill of Sale
State paperwork: TxDMV's checklist for a private sale is a properly signed title (with the date of sale and odometer reading) and a signed Application for Texas Title and/or Registration (Form 130-U) showing the sales price.
Florida Vehicle Bill of Sale
Official state form: HSMV 82050, Notice of Sale and/or Bill of Sale for a Motor Vehicle, Mobile Home, Off-Highway Vehicle or Vessel. Used as a bill of sale, the seller and purchaser complete sections 1, 2 (when applicable) and 3.
Georgia Vehicle Bill of Sale
Official state form: Form T-7, Bill of Sale. It records the sale and the seller's odometer declaration. It must be completed in full, legibly printed or typed, and the form warns that any correction or alteration voids it.
North Carolina Vehicle Bill of Sale
Notarization: If the title being transferred is a North Carolina title, the seller's section on the back must be notarized. For out-of-state titles, NCDMV follows that state's rules. The Title Application (MVR-1) also has to be notarized.
